Rivers are very important for several plants and animals that live around them. Man-made dams negatively affect native animals and their reproductive abilities. Habitat loss is another challenge for rivers. Habitat loss is most often from human activities and recreation. Pollution in and around the rivers detur native plants and animal species from thriving. The NOAA has partnered with many organizations to restore native species and safely install bridges and dams, without disrupting the surroundings.
Reading this article made me hopeful for a brighter future. The NOAA organization has many projects to combat the impacts of climate change. I can relate this river project to environmental science because it directly involves native species and their natural habitat. This project also applied data collection into a natural setting, by understanding the environmental threat, and replenishing the correct amount.
I agree with your statement on how the NOAA Is restoring native species, and that this is a good thing. A question that I have is, what other projects is the NOAA doing to help the environment?
There are many different projects similar to this one, and all of them are related to improving the environment and the resources available to us. You could look on the website to find many different examples of the projects!
Im glad the NOAA is one organization set on restoring habits, but I feel like there needs to be more group efforts. Habitat loss directs affects humans, and humans are causing habitat loss. How can we put an end to this cycle?
We can support these organizations, volunteer, and do our part in keeping the environment free of human waste. Good question!
Rivers are definitely super important to a significant amount of keystone species. Are there any examples of events or groups that we can support to help protect river environments?
Many ways of improving the environment, starting with organic produce, and cleaning up waste products. Thank you for your question!
