The pollution of the Nile River is a large problem in Egypt. Hazardous waste is dumped into the river and is causing water poisoning among people in the region. The Ministry of Environment has recorded a few instances of pollution in the Nile: wastewater has been released, dead animals have been dumped, and industrial solid waste has been released. Untreated water is used in agriculture that affects the quality of the food that is created. Many people in the region consume polluted water regularly. This is a large problem that needs to be fixed.

Water pollution is very common in third world countries. People are not concerned with the long-term affects associated with poor treatment of a region’s water resource. This leads to problems with agriculture and the health of the population. This is related to environmental science for those reasons. It is surprising to read about many different types of water pollution and how they can have different impacts on a region.

  1. It’s really sad that such a well-known and beautiful river can be damaged so easily by humans. Do you know if measures are being taken to reduce the amount of pollution?

  2. This problem is very common in third-world countries because of the lack of education and awareness people don’t receive. If the country focused on showing the dangers poulliton brings to our environements and individuals themselves it would not be such a big problem.

  3. Is there anything being done by the government, private companies, or individuals to prevent people from consuming polluted or untreated water?

  4. This is a really startling article; the problem of water pollution in the Nile seems to be getting out of hand. The government needs to step in and set restrictions on the disposal of waste, in order to preserve the river. Have any steps been taken to stop the illegal dumping of waste in the river?

  5. This seems like it should be a major concern for the Egyptian government as the nile is the countries major water way. Most likely it is getting less attention because of the turmoil of Egyptian politics.

  6. It is surprising to see that a country so dependent on water, would mistreat their water ways like this one, beyond repair. I agree with Mostyn, most people think about the nile and dont care about the other rivers

  7. It’s really unfortunate how in many countries with intense internal strife like Egypt, people have less freedom to be concerned with environmental problems because they are focused on problems more immediate and apparent to them, like economic and political turmoil. How is this pollution of the Nile effecting Egypt, either in it’s environment or it’s community?
