Anglers to Trump: You’re Fired!

This article talks about how Trump’s administration is attempting an expansion of oil and gas drilling on California’s public land, but some people are ready to fight back. Trump released a plan to have more acres of land for oil even though we obviously already have enough. It would outweigh the actual oil companies if Trump proceeds with the plan. It shows how their concerns about the oil and health life would expand and drive the climate crisis. Ultimately, bring more problems to the ones we have now in California. 

This article shows how much some people really care about public land. The article states issues the environment is having with public land and how oil can cause even more. We need to get Trump out to increase healthy air, water, and habitats for wildlife without destroying our innocent lands. We need to realize Trump’s plan and how it means having more acres of land. But on the other hand, which also means the lands will soon be in poor condition.

Sierra Club on House Passage of NDAA

The article brings up the National Defense Authorization Act. Mainly in Southern California, there are 13 different species in each landscape. California shows that they want to take part in helping out the environment to lessen the endangerments of animals in the public lands that are provided. With more than 1.3 billion acres of land, the state plans on impacting the communities with safety. It is said that it will be protecting the 30 percent of U.S. lands and waters that scientists say are needed to stem the climate and extinction crises.

I consider this article important because it talks about specific places to take more consideration in environmental science. Trump, as we know,  doesn’t care as much for public land so it is not always brought up. The public land is for the whole environment and California shows help by bringing these specific places up into media.

Bill Seeks to Protect Miles of Northwest California Rivers.

This article talks about how the grassland and rivers in California could be in danger due to human resources. It starts by showing how grassland, forests, and rivers support wildlife and the $92 billion recreation economy. It can all change due to the threats of resource extraction and road development. This is important not only because it means that we will be wasting tons of money but also it will lead to a decrease in biodiversity since the animals would have to find a new habitat. The article brings up how we need headwaters of rivers and aquifers that will provide the water for humans and wildlife.

This article is related to environmental science because it shows the importance of public land use. It shows how humans destroy habitats for wildlife to help their needs. It is valuable to see the importance of public land use because if it’s not talked about as much as it should be, we could put these species in danger. Not only that but also we will lead the state to just waste money. The cities around us need to know why building roads and houses will not always be the best idea. California should see how we could help public land use and not destroy wildlife.

Massive Colorado Wilderness Bill Clears U.S. House

This article talks about how there was a bill brought to California, Colorado, and Washington. It was said that  “the legislation would add 1.3 million acres of wilderness across the West”.This would be lenient for Trump because he works on developing public land and oil as well. Public land use is currently talked about because of Trump’s new plan to open more land to have more areas for other specific things. This implies that there would be more challenges for the community to help out the environment as a whole.

This is an important article because it talks about how more land does not mean it is always a good idea. It constructs the source of environmental science and how we need to help our air quality and living conditions as a whole. The land is managed for recreation, wildlife, and soil and water quality, but closed to mining and development. The work being done on land causes damages in California and making more acres would ruin what we have now. I agree that the bill did harm, as well as helped out people with their daily needs.

California Attorney General ‘Slams’ Trump Administration Plan to Sell Seven Oil and Gas Leases in Kern County

This article talks about how the BLM plan will bring more problems to California. Trump is ready to have more sections of land to get more oil. He is disregarding the fact that oil and gas spills can create huge problems. Trump and his administration need to see how more oil will contaminate the air and horrible for not only humans but also wildlife. Instead of opening acres of land, they need to realize we need to let the land be.

The community is trying to bring a message out for public land use but it’s kind of hard when Trump is ignorant when it comes to climate and wildlife. The BLM plan is producing more oil and gas leaks which overall impact more problems to California. I think with enough representatives in the community who care about environmental justice can help the climate from having drastic changes.

The article is based around the tourism industry within that area which is centered around marine life and the jobs and profit it creates. There have been issues with the management of tourism with worsening ecosystems and they need to work towards a plan that focuses on more sustainable options.

 

I think just tourism, in general, is labeled as ecotourism as long as anything related to nature is involved which is inaccurate. The programs need to be less based on profit and a bit more on the sustainability of species otherwise there will not be a chance to have that tourism year in the future. If more programs implemented a more sustainable and beneficial approach to the ecosystems we would be in a much better situation in the whole industry towards having an active money-making solution that would both benefit the planet and those who might want to make a profit. As long as we focus on a compromise, we can get a lot more done.

The article talks about how social media posts for ecotourism may be a more important factor for people choosing ecotourism than the actual sustainability of nature. According to the article, people get a sense of elevated status in the buying of certain luxury items and doing certain events which can be a motivating factor in purchases and decisions and it might be that same type of decision to want to do ecotourism. In sum, social media is changing the way we view travel as a society.

 

I think that if there is an increase in exposure to social media to certain parts of nature that there will be more people that go to certain places which can be positive and negative. In regards to covid and overcrowding, it can be a negative thing because too many people can actually be harmful and some places may not be able to handle that much of an increase of people. I do not think that the motives for people wanting to do ecotourism really matter as long as there is an effort for ecotourism because then there will be a benefit from it. Ecotourism can be really beneficial for the environment if done right.

Measure Aims to Ramp Up Federal Response to Coral Reef Disasters.

In the House of Representatives, a bill is being talked about that would help save endangered coral reefs. This bill is called the Coral Reef Conservation Reauthorization Act and it was introduced by Congressman Ed Case. This article sheds some light on the importance of coral reefs to our country and the ecosystems found in the oceans surrounding our country. Congressman Case’s act would strengthen federal responses to coral reef emergencies, expand federal grant making for local reef conservation projects, and would authorize the U.S. Coral Reef Task Force and the Coral Reef Management Fellowship.

I was very pleased to read about the federal changes being made to help preserve the coral reefs. While reading this article, I learned a lot about the importance of reefs to our country. Coral reefs help support many American industries such as tourism, hospitality, boating, recreation, and fishing. By passing this bill, many coral reefs would be protected from the effects of climate change, which would also help save many oceanic habitats. It is very important that we help save and restore the coral reefs because they help support a large portion of ocean life.

This article pertains to more tourism as a whole in California not just the ecotourism aspect although it does have information pertaining to the national parks. Tourisms in California lead to millions of jobs and income which helps supports families within California. Due to covid 19 and the raging wildfires within California, there are fewer people going to those national parks but rather to other places within California like wineries. Since the whole weather climate and pandemic, there is less encouragement to want to come to more eco-friendly tourism locations because they are less accessible with fires.

 

The less participation in more ecotourism locations speaks more to where the fires spread and how that is still damaging the business and environment at the same time. The national parks are home to numerous ecosystems and allow for a more sustainable vacation than just focusing on tourism in general.

A Probiotic for Corals.

Marine researchers from the University of Hawaii and San Diego State University are studying and researching coral probiotics. Although many coral reefs are at risk because of climate change, many coral reefs also suffer from chemical and bacterial issues. Coral reefs suffering from stress can be dominated by algae. Coral probiotics function like human probiotics, meaning that they will help fight off many bacteria and viruses found in ecological processes involving coral reefs. Researchers are also studying beneficial bacteria that can help improve reef health.

Before reading this article, I had no idea that coral probiotics existed. I think that coral probiotics is a fascinating topic and also incredibly important. I find it very interesting that coral probiotics are very similar to human probiotics and it makes me wonder if there are any other similarities between human health and coral health. After reading this article, i’m very excited to learn more about the discoveries of coral probiotics and how they will help restore the reefs.
