In Colorado where the animas river was deluged with millions of gallons of toxic water lawmakers are already debating the ways to fund clean up with republicans backing a good Samaritan bill and democrats backing a bill that would charge royalties for mining and use the taxes to fund cleanups.

The current state of our policies and ideas of policymakers seem to be lagging behind the scientific facts p[resented. Lawmakers seem to take an approach that is too little too late and a law such as a the good Samaritan obne proposed would do little to aid the deplorable state of tens of thousands of mines which contain toxic water and need to be addressed by largescale containment and reduction efforts.

  1. I agree with your point that lawmakers are taking a more lax approach in regards to passing regulation in favor of the enviorment. I belive this is due to the pressures of big maufacturers wanting to grow exponentially without paying external costs.

    • Even with the big manufacturers forgetting to think of how to help benefit the environment it is amazing to see that people, like the lawyers, are still making progress. Very good points made!

  2. I agree that we aren’t making the advancements in policies at the rate we should be. We are acting like climate change isn’t already affect us. How can we help pass more policies?

  3. I can’t decide which side I would be on but our world is becoming too political. The more people wait to take action, the more harmful it is to our environment. Instead of fighting, both lawyers should come to a compromise and do what is best for our earth. Have they figured it out by now?
