This article is written on behalf of the California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) and describes their immense impact in maintaining and protecting the agriculture distributed in California. Specifically, they work to control animal health, food safety, crop inspection, and pesticide use. In order to monitor all of this, this department is granted a Governor’s Budget Proposal for about $463 million from various funds. In addition, there is the Governor’s 2018‑19 cap-and-trade expenditure plan which grants money to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through Dairy Digester Research, the Alternative Manure Management Program, and the Healthy Soils Program. However, in this issue of the 2018-2019 program, it focuses mostly on two proposals: 1) The Bee Safe Program, and (2) Citrus Pest and Disease Prevention.

 

This article is related to environmental science in an immense amount of ways. To start, this article is written by the California Department of Food and Agriculture, a program that strives to ensure environment health through the agricultural systems. This proposal specifically draws in on greenhouse gas emissions as well as the bee safe program and pest/disease prevention. All of these are examples are pressing issues faced in California that have to do with pollution and extinction. This report is assessing these issues and creating steps to solve them.
