The Federal Bureau of Ocean Energy Management has recently held an auction for offshore wind lease areas in California. Companies like: Monterey Bay Community Power, EnBW North America, and Trident Winds Inc. have each bid on 1,000 Megawatt floating stations. By 2040, the Bureau hopes to develop at least 10 gigawatts of offshore wind power in California. 

 

This article relates to environmental science because it goes into the specifics of how California plans to reevaluate its energy production sector, by means of going cleaner by 2040. This is significant because this action leads the nation into a more renewable path to producing energy. I agree with California’s decision making because it will make a significant impact in reducing fossil fuel emissions on the whole.
