  1. California can be a leader in eco travel. We have so many cool opportunities. What do you think, can all travel be sustainable? Should there be policy affecting, for examples, hotels? Or should we allow the free market to handle that. Lots of people are definitely ecoconscious. However, lots of hotels are extremely dollar conscious and may not want to make changes.

Hope you found your topic to be interesting this year, Fiona. I always find ecotourism to be much more interesting than the other kind. Seems like there should be some standards on it and definitely a way to share best practices.

    • Thank you for reading! I agree that California certainly has the potential to be a leader in eco-travel due to its abundant opportunities for sustainable tourism. While it may not be possible to completely eliminate the environmental impact of travel, there are certainly ways to minimize it and promote sustainable tourism practices. I believe that in order to promote sustainable tourism we should use policy and regulation. Governments can implement regulations that require hotels and other tourism-related businesses to comply with environmental standards and promote sustainable practices. For example, some cities and states have implemented mandatory recycling programs, green building codes, and other regulations to promote sustainability in the tourism industry. Additionally, governments can provide incentives and support for businesses that prioritize sustainability, such as tax breaks, subsidies, and grants.

I have definitely enjoyed learning more about ecotourism and the controversy that surrounds it.

  2. This article seems super cool! I agree that ecotourism is a really important way to diminish our harmful effects on the environment, because it gives people a greater appreciation for nature and it takes away focus from unsustainable events/organizations/practices. Do you think that it’s possible for all tourists who visit California to be eco-friendly?

    • Thank you for reading! It may not be possible for all tourists who visit California to be 100% eco-friendly, however it is possible for them to adopt environmentally conscious behaviors that reduce their impact on the environment. I think it is important that tourists put in effort to choose eco- friendly activities and respect California’s wildlife and ecosystems.
