2020 Presidential Candidates Addressing Climate Change

Board, T. E. (2019, June 11). Joe Biden and other 2020 Democrats give climate change the attention it deserves. Retrieved August 2, 2019, from https://www.usatoday.com/story/opinion/2019/06/10/joe-biden-democrats-give-climate-change-crucial-attention-editorials-debates/1406822001/

Many 2020 presidential candidates are proposing new ideas and laws to combat climate change for the upcoming election. Climate change has raised concern for many voters over the past few years, and presidential candidates are taking note of this to create proposals that will impress and satisfy voters. One of the top approaches that have been discussed is creating a refundable national carbon tax that would make carbon capture schemes more competitive, preventing CO2 from entering the atmosphere. Then, the U.S. would use economic pressure to persuade China and major polluters to also reduce their CO2 emissions.

This article brings hope to the United States in our battle against climate change because it shows the devotion of presidential candidates and voters, who are pressing for these eco-friendly reforms. The candidates are aware that order to reduce our carbon emissions we need to focus on studying environmental science and the relationships between humans and the environment, and many are pressing for more public knowledge about the implications of climate change. I am curious as to how much money these reforms will require and how these candidates are planning on acquiring this money. However, this makes me hopeful that my nation has a chance of surviving this climate change battle because of the improvements that are being planned and proposed.

US Blocks Declaration on Climate Change at Arctic Talks

Sengupta, S. (2019, May 07). U.S. Pressure Blocks Declaration on Climate Change at Arctic Talks. Retrieved July 12, 2019, from https://www.nytimes.com/2019/05/07/climate/us-arctic-climate-change.html

The United States blocks declaration on climate change at Arctic talks. The Arctic talk council is a council made up of eight Arctic countries to discuss Arctic issues to try to work towards solutions. At the Arctic talk council, most other members were open to talking about climate change, but the United States banned any discussion around climate change or the Paris Agreement, which concerned the council. The United States needs to recognize the gravity of climate change in order to come to take action against it.

This article suggests that the United States is not as invested in fighting climate change as other countries. The fact that the United States was unwilling to even discuss climate change or the Paris Agreement in a council that was designed to find solutions to issues similar to these, is very alarming. It raises many questions about the U.S.’s motivation to fight against climate change and makes me wonder how we are ever going to take steps to undo the damage that has been done to our planet if we are not willing to talk about these pressing subjects. This is directly related to environmental science because the fossil fuels that are causing climate change are being used by United States citizens who need to be educated on what they are doing to the planet. In order for the U.S. citizens to be educated, our representatives need to be more open to talking about the weight of climate change.

There’s Still Time to Fight Climate Change!

UNITED NATIONS Climate Change – Summit 2019. (2019, February 23). Retrieved July 1, 2019, from https://www.un.org/en/climatechange/un-climate-summit-2019.shtml

The impacts of climate change are being felt nationwide and beginning to have real consequences in peoples’ everyday lives. The latest analysis shows that we still have time to combat climate change before it is irreversible. One of the main ways the U.S. is planning on doing this is through the Paris Agreement, which is a plan to stop climate disruption and reverse its impact. However, in order for the Paris Agreement to be effective, aggressive action needs to be taken quickly. The people of the United States need to come together to fund climate change as a united entity.

This article brings hope to United States citizens because even though climate change is very serious and its impacts are already being felt, it can still be fought against and we can still save the planet. It states that if we act now and reduce our carbon emissions drastically within the next twelve years, the effects of climate change can and will be reversed. In order to reduce our carbon emissions, we need to focus on studying environmental science and the relationships between humans and the environment. The article also stresses how important it is for the U.S. to come together to create crucial reforms to battle global warming. This makes me wonder why citizens of the U.S. have not really begun fighting this battle in the face of climate change, even when knowing that it is not too late for the earth to be saved.

Climate Change Battle

Sutter, J. D. (2019, April 22). We’re losing the war on climate change. Retrieved June 19, 2019, from https://www.cnn.com/2019/04/21/world/sutter-earth-day-climate-scn/index.html

The United States must quickly make major reforms in order to combat climate change. The US has taken steps towards reducing our fossil fuels emissions, but nowhere near the reduction, we need to see. Since climate change is advancing so rapidly and becomes more urgent the longer we are not actively fighting against it, the U.S. is not making reforms quickly enough to match the scale of this disaster. In sum, not only do regulations need to be created, but they also need to be made expeditiously to fight against global warming at the speed it is progressing.

This article forces people to understand the sad reality of climate change. Even though the United States is now trying to fight against climate change and global warming, we must create these reforms and regulations much faster to have a change of beating climate change before it is irreversible. This is related to environmental science because the reforms that must take place include forcing the population to treat the environment better. In order to combat climate change, people need to reduce their carbon footprints and in order to do this they must treat the environment with respect. This makes me curious about things that can easily be done to reduce the human impact on the environment and how to do these things quickly enough.

Climate Change Denial!

Milman, O., & Harvey, F. (2019, May 08). US is hotbed of climate change denial, major global survey finds. Retrieved June 11, 2019, from https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2019/may/07/us-hotbed-climate-change-denial-international-poll

A recent survey revealed that many United States citizens are in denial about climate change. 13% of Americans surveyed believe that climate change is not happening as a result of human activity and 5% believe that the climate is not changing at all. There is also evidence that some Americans may believe climate change is a conspiracy theory because of Donald Trump, who stated that climate change is a made up idea from China. In all, many Americans are under the impression that climate change is fake or not caused by humans and are not willing to accept the gravity of climate change.

This article sheds light on the scary reality that many Americans do not believe in climate change. This could cause extreme repercussions, because if people do not believe in climate change, they will not do anything to combat it. I think the United States should focus on studying environmental science and the relationships between humans and the environment to realize that the reason climate change is occurring is because of humans, and we are the only ones that can stop it. Reading this article makes me very concerned for the future of our planet because if people do not believe in climate change and accept that it is being caused by human activities, they will not take precautions to reduce their carbon footprints; thus, climate change will only get worse.
