Biodiversity loss retrieves less attention in the environmental concerns aspect, biodiversity is declining the fastest in human history and we are close to our sixth mass extinction. The expectation for 2030, is to have urban areas to cover three times as much land as the year 2000. The food production has one third of the planet’s ice-free land. Lojenga, the executive director of the union of ethical bio trade. He Believes that there is more awareness for biodiversity which is very much needed right now and he has started to work with other companies in hopes to help biodiversity.

In this article they speak about biodiversity in companies sourcing natural ingredients. Lojenga started the UEBT, which was made to offer certificates to organizations that practiced protecting biodiversity. The UEBT also had other requirements to help the environment such as, protect endangered species, limits on agrochemicals, and restrictions on cultivation. This action helps not only biodiversity but also helps the environment we are living in because food production has a negative impact on biodiversity. The further UEBT expands and brings awareness to this issue the higher biodiversity will be for our environment.

In Europe animals like, bison, wild horses, and other big-hoofed roamed in the wild, however, now they are being brought to a military base in hopes to improve biodiversity. The director of European Wildlife said that the animals will be helping biodiversity by only eating invasive plants while living on the base with other animals. This experiment ended up working out much better then they had predicted and that animals could take steps to preserve nature not just humans.

This article conveys the actions that animals took part in to help biodiversity, by giving the endangered plants a change to grow and come back. As a result they started to see flowers flourishing and a special butterfly had been seen there for the first time since 1967. If it was proved in this experiment that when you give nature a chance and space it can help many things come back to life. Overall, although this process took some effort and time it was far worth it for our environment and the endangered species located in that area and now they can take this technique and use it in other areas to bring back species non artificially.

Lewis, S. (2020, August 27). 38 dolphins found dead after massive oil spill on island of Mauritius. Retrieved August 28, 2020, from https://www.cbsnews.com/news/mauritius-oil-spill-27-dolphins-found-dead/

A mass oil spill occured killing at least 38 dolphins along the coast of island of Mauritius on the 26th of August. Sadly, dolphins were not the only animals found on shore there were also, eels, crabs and seabirds. This area brought in endangered species decades ago which was threatened by the recent oil spill. They are having an autopsy on the dolphins to find the true cause of death while locals are taking action to help the plants and wildlife from this spill that could be a huge problem for years to come.

The article brings attention to the long term effects of hard chemicals and their effects on wildlife. This will most likely be a long term issue because the oil is now seeping into the coral reefs and soil, which now puts many species at risk of extinction even the endangered species that they had just re-introduced. The oil has caused a huge environmental complication because you can not just take the oil out of the water and scientists say species are at risk of drowning which will cause the species living that area to be endangered. There will be independent public investigation of the disaster by the environmental organization to protect the island. In conclusion, incidents like these are what can slowly or quickly wipe out entire species but it is nice to see locals doing everything they can to preserve their island.
