The article “Pollution from the sediment in Lake Tahoe reduced by 600k Pounds in 2021” is exactly what the title is. Thousands of pounds of pollution have been reduced, many of which from people and others from fires. Tahoe gets around 15 million visitors yearly, most to explore the wildlife and partake in outdoor activities. Besides human activity, phosphorus, and nitrogen levels have significantly decreased and reduced to a healthy amount, lessening the number of algae growing in the lakes, causing the clarity level to be 61 feet.

It is without a doubt that Tahoe is one of the most visited places in California and Nevada and a commonly traveled destination for other people in other states. Tahoe has a lot of things to offer to many tourists, which brings many people to visit. With around 15 million people visiting Tahoe annually, it would be detrimental to the environment. The pollution levels are very high due to ecotourism and fires, which must be dealt with to maintain the lovely city healthily. Helping reduce pollution would help, but it is also up to the tourists to be responsible for their waste. All the emissions from transportation alone make up much of the pollution, so figuring out ways to lessen the carbon footprint is needed.

  1. I honestly found this fascinating but very interesting as well. Learning about where the pollution was coming from i feel like is very important. I also loved learning about the decrease in nitrogen levels, thank you so much for sharing!

  2. This response is very interesting to me because I have been to Tahoe and I find it a very beautiful place. I do agree that there is a responsibility with the tourists to control their waste, however, I believe people aren’t going to stop touring there, and a majority of the pollution is from transportation, which would only get better from more efficient forms of transportation. Do you think because of this and many other reasons, that electric vehicles are something we should focus on as a country?

  3. This is a very interesting situation and perspective that can apply to many places across the globe with large amounts of tourism. With transportation being a leading cause and tourism in the area showing no signs of declining what do you think the most effective approach would be? Should we attack personal transportation? Group transportation?
