Fiji Airways has just taken delivery of a brand new Airbus A350. This airbus was powered by a mixture of SAF and regular jet fuel. Fiji Airways has already committed to using a blend of SAF and regular jet fuel for all its flights to Singapore. The CEO of the airline says that this is a step forward towards a more sustainable future for aviation. The problem is that SAF is still more expensive than conventional jet fuel.

I believe that Fiji Airlines is taking the right step in using a blend of SAF and regular jet fuels to power its aircraft. This is the path that other airlines should follow in order to reduce their own carbon emissions. Over time, SAF should become more widely available and cheaper to produce.

  1. I agree that Fiji Airlines is taking a step in the right direction for aviation. Are other airlines also using SAF fuel? I think there should be some laws passed that require a certain amount of SAF fuel in each plane for each flight. How do you think it will become possible for SAF fuel to become mainstream?

  2. It is definitely good that they are using more sustainable fuel. With the more expensive price, it seems unlikely for more corporations to start using it without some sort of legislation. Are there any other upsides to the fuel other than it being sustainable that might encourage more airlines to use it?

  3. I also agree that Fiji is taking the right steps. But again money is connected to everything and massive aviation corps. will most likely not be willing to cut their profits to save the environment. We need a way to convince these airlines to take the right steps, would that be through law making?
