Off the west coast of Scotland a fisherman named Ian Wightman has started using new fishing technologies to try to reduce bycatch. These technologies include LED lights that attract specific fish but repel mammals. The world wildlife foundation has done research that proves how illuminating lights can help to increase the efficiency of fishing as well as reducing the bycatch. These lights are a “win-win” for fishers and the environment alike! The major issue in these technology advancements are the accessibility and affordability for fishers all over the world.
