The ARTIC, Anaheim Regional Transportation Intermodal Center, allows passengers to arrive by train, bus, bike, or car and connect to Honda Center, Angel Stadium of Anaheim, Disneyland and destinations beyond Orange County. This $184 million infrastructure offers commuters 11 electric-vehicle charging stations or an entrance for bicycles “from one of the two exits off the Santa Ana River Bikeway.” This entirely green building “features 67,00 square feet of space for ticket counters, lounges for riders to plug in laptops and iPhones, eateries, shops, plus a railroad bridge, train platforms, bus bays and bicycle lockers.” The roof of the ARTIC is “covered in ethylene tetrafluoroethylene, which is a fluorine-based plastic that puffs up when filled with air.”

This article shows how progressive and innovative Southern California has gotten to encourage people in the city to commute in environmentally friendly ways. The building of this large infrastructure will attract a great number of people through their highly efficient and completely environmentally friendly design. I find it very interesting that Anaheim spent their money on this giant building, but also hopeful that people will ditch their destructive cars and adopt a new way of transportation. I really enjoy that fact that this whole building is environmentally conscious, for example all the eateries inside only sell “environmentally conscious coffee and tea,” nothing from Starbucks.
