Bioplastic is made from basic and natural materials such as cornstarch and other similar products. This new type of plastic is different to biodegradable plastics due to the fact that it does not create an increase on Carbon Dioxide. This occurs when the as dissolves, decomposes, or breaks down. Many companies have started to produce this new type of plastic. Polylactide, which is an acid inside the bag, is able to save two thirds the energy compared to making normal plastics that are often found at grocery stores.

Normal plastic on this earth causes serious problems. Plastic bags can get into the ocean and damage living animals in the ocean. This is caused by plastic ripping into small pieces and floating to waterways. This causes species to die at at abnormal rate. The similar idea happens on land as well. With Bioplastic, it is edible and decomposable. This causes no animals to die at an alarming rate. As well as wildlife being a benefit, the Polylactide acid in the nag produces about 70 percent less greenhouse gases when broke down in a landfill for example. Compared to regular plastic bags, Bioplastic is compostable and decomposable at a very fast rate. With faster ways to decompose, plastic will not clog up landfills and will a problem humans don’t need to deal with any longer.

  1. Excellent example of env. friendly technology. Seems like there could be a huge demand for this type of truly biodegradable plastic. So the question becomes, how do we give it a leg up and help it become marketable?

Hope you’ve found your topic inspiring this year Kaley. Lots of cool products and innovations coming on line. Thanks for all the interesting abstracts.
