Global consulting firm JLL is working to create regional strategic plans to guide the state’s tourism industry. JLL plans to create plans specific to each of California’s 12 tourism regions. These plans will examine tourism issues, including environmental challenges, workforce development, and infrastructure needs. Tourism businesses and California’s 300-plus destination management organizations will use the findings to build a more sustainable future for the tourism industry. JLL plans to form responsible travel principles, address climate impacts from tourism, and build alliances.

This article is very prominent as it is one of the few plans that have been made toward improving tourism and making it sustainable. JLL is working to protect the environment and encourage destination tourism development that maximizes diversity. JLL will hopefully Establish  a better image for tourism, while mitigating negative impacts of tourism. If JLL keeps to their plan it will  be very beneficial to the tourism industry and will have very positive effects on the environment.

  1. I think it’s inspiring to read about a tourism company trying to help and protect the environment, since normally I think the tourism industry does more harm than good to the environment. I wonder how consumers or the public can know to trust companies like this. How can we make sure companies proclaiming to protect the environment are following through and held accountable?

    • Thank you for reading! Governments, NGOs, and industry associations should establish clear and measurable environmental standards that companies must meet in order to claim they are protecting the environment. Companies should be required to report on their environmental performance regularly, if they do not penalties should be imposed (fines, loss of permits, etc)

  2. It’s quite interesting how this organization developed this plan without government funding or guidance. Do you believe that their plan will be able to come to fruition and be economically viable? Or is it a case of putting on a facade in order to have a good image?

  3. I believe their plan is economically viable, as long as they keep to their plan JLL will hopefully Establish a better image for tourism, while mitigating negative impacts of tourism.
