California’s population has dropped for the third year in a row. This significant drop has the state raising concerns about the effects of an exodus of residence from California. In a span of a year around 40,000 people left the state of California. In 2021 California recorded its first ever yearly population loss, but as the years went on the state lost more than half of million people in their population. California has faced major losses over the last three years.

According to the article, California has forced its residents out of the state. This is because the cost-of-living has taken us to its residence with emphasis in Los Angeles and San Francisco where there have been higher housing costs. These housing costs have a median of $573,000. This cost has put a strain on working in middle-class families. It is also said that many residents have left the state during the pandemic because of remote working. It also says that all of the population drop has decreased and the trend is persisting. I wonder if California’s lawmakers will create a law that will allow there to be a small decrease and how much the homes cost.

  1. I’m not surprised to read that California has lost so many residents in recent years. Given the housing crisis and inflation, I can see why people are leaving, but I’m not sure how the government can be expected to lower prices when labor is so expensive. That said, will California continue to lose more and more residents or is there a solution to incentivize people to say?

  2. I’m sure that the pandemic had a lot to do with people moving in the past few years. Financially, a lot of people have not been able to recover and with California being such an expensive state, it is impossible to live here comfortably for most. I wonder what will happen if we just keep losing people, and what will happen to the prices of homes?
